Lakeside Wheelers Cycling Club have adopted Cycling Irelands Code of Conduct
Lakeside Wheelers Cycling Club is committed to promoting a safe, fair, and respectful sporting environment for everyone involved in cycling. This Code of Conduct sets the standards of behaviour expected from all participants, coaches, officials, supporters, parents/guardians, clubs, and volunteers. When you pay your membership - you are agreeing to abide by this code of conduct. Here is a short summary of the code of conduct.
Summary of our Code of Conduct
Core Principles
• Treat everyone with respect, fairness, and dignity regardless of background or identity.
• Uphold the values of integrity, honesty, and sportsmanship at all times.
• Promote a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment for cycling.
• Place the safety, welfare, and enjoyment of participants—especially children and vulnerable adults—above all else.
• Follow Cycling Ireland, UCI, and safeguarding rules, policies, and procedures.
• Act as role models, showing respect to teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and supporters.
• Accept and respect the decisions of officials.
• Encourage fair play, effort, and participation regardless of results.
• Work together to promote good practice, accountability, and safety.
• Support volunteers, coaches, and officials, recognising their contribution.
• Keep communication constructive and age-appropriate, especially with young riders.
• Remain calm, fair, and professional in all situations.
• Report incidents, breaches, or concerns promptly and appropriately.
Unacceptable Behaviour
• Verbal, physical, emotional, or online abuse, bullying, intimidation, or harassment.
• Discrimination based on gender, race, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, or other status.
• Use of foul, offensive, or threatening language/gestures.
• Violence, unfair tactics, or bringing the sport into disrepute.
• Ridiculing or embarrassing participants, especially children.
• Misuse of social media to abuse, undermine, or spread offensive content.
• Ignoring safeguarding rules or failing to act in the best interests of children and vulnerable adults.
• Aggressively challenging officials’ decisions or integrity.
Reporting & Sanctions
• Report breaches to the relevant group leader(s), club committee member, or Cycling Ireland.
• Sanctions may include warnings, fines, loss of results/points, suspension or expulsion, or other penalties deemed appropriate by the club committee
• Suspected criminal behaviour must be reported to the relevant authorities.
Everyones Responsiblity
• This Code applies before, during, and after all cycling activities.
• Every participant has a duty to protect the reputation of cycling
• Support a culture of respect and fairness.
• Promote safe, positive experiences for all.
