The National Youth Championships staged in Ballymoney and Dunloy recently brought the curtain down on the 2018 Youth racing season. Whilst it has been a very tough few months for our young riders, it has also been an extremely enjoyable season with some outstanding performances.

In Ballymoney, Lakeside Wheelers had four competitors namely, Caoimhe O’Brien,  Aoife O’Brien, Leo Gunning and Mikey Flaherty. This has to have been the toughest course of all the Nationals so far with hills, hills and more hills to contend with. The race program consisted of three races, a Time Trial, Road Race and Crit.

Aoife swept the boards in the Under 14 girl’s category winning all three gold medals on offer. Caoimhe was victorious in two of her races and took second place in her Time Trial.
Leo took part in the U/16 boys category and achieved a high placing in all the races. Mikey continues his steady progress and achieved a mid-teen placing in all his races,
Well done to all.

Caoimhe O’Brien Crowned Queen of Ladies Commission League 2018
Tuesday, 21st August saw the curtain fall on the 2018 Corkagh Park Women's Racing League with Aoife O'Brien taking 6 of the 8 sprints available.

On Saturday, August 25th Caoimhe was crowned 2018 Women’s Commission Intermediate League champion at Corkagh Park. The Under 16 Rider went into the event wearing the Women’s Commissions League Leaders Jersey, and she increased her lead on the day by sprinting home to win the final stage.

Well done Caoimhe and best wishes for the next chapter of your promising cycling career.
