Paul McDermott Takes Stage 2

Numbers were slightly down, largely due the damp weather conditions that greeted us on the day, for the first road race stage of the (ahem) summer club league nonetheless we still had over fifty members signed on before the start of the race. David Fagan was race organiser for the evening with Noel Delaney taking on the head marshal duties. Thanks to all who marshalled on the night with out your help the races can’t go ahead.

Stage 2 gets under way.
First off the night was the blue category and with numbers a bit low the decision was made to send the group all together. The group seemed to ride well together and used the large time gap to their benefit and were to stay away for the duration of the race. Next up was the yellow category, divided into their respective groups, which set off in earnest to catch the blue group ahead followed closely by the red category.

It was apparent at the start of the last lap of four, of the tricky Dysart lap, that the winner was to come from the blue category as the gap hadn’t come down enough for them to be caught even though all the other groups had come back together apart from the red 4 group. Well done to Paul McDermott who took the overall stage win and blue category win on the night followed closely by Graham Morgan with Eddie Hynes piping Claire Malone to third (all Blue category) next in was Conor Hughes who took the bunch sprint ahead of Robbie Kenny, Mick Reynolds & Brian Collentine (all Red category). First home for the yellow group was youth rider Conor Canton followed by Geoffrey Rogers in second and Stephen Corroon in third place.

Conor Hughes now leads the Red group after two stages with Conor Canton leading the Yellow group and Graham Morgan leading the Blue. Conor Canton & Conor Hughes are joint overall leaders with Graham Morgan in second and Dermot Berry in third. Conor Canton will wear the race leaders jersey for the next stage.
