Stage 3 Report

Stuart Cox holds onto the leader’s jersey following a Stage 3 of the Club league. Stuart and JP Kilmurray are now level on points but Stuart will wear the leaders white jersey for Stage 4 when a count back on overall highest finishing positions is done.

Last week’s event was also a points scoring round in the Midland League and we welcomed a number of visitors from our 4 neighbouring clubs to Dysart. The remaining rounds of our club league are not points scoring rounds for the Midland League and so sign-on numbers should be slightly lower.

Luke Eivers, who has come through the underage structure in the club, put in a fine performance to lead last week’s race for almost 3 laps. This was Lukes first club league event and he showed great skill and fitness. In the end many groups came together on the last lap and a strong young rider from WTCC, Thomas Fallon, was the first rider home on the night. Sarah Piner was the first of the Club Leagues Red Category to finish next Red was Dave Fagan and then Brian Collentine. In the Yellow Category - David Shaw, PJ Carey and Aiden Fox kept prominent positions in the leading group to take 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Yellow category. In the Blue Category: John Raleigh, Oliver Bright and Vivenne Fitzpatrick took the top 3 finishing positions. As you will see from the results table points were awarded in the league table only to riders taking part in our club league.

No special training is needed to take part in the league. There were 8 separate handicapped groups in stage 3 with the aim of starting members in a group that matches their fitness level and to give all club members an equal chance in the overall results. However the aim is for riders to enjoy themselves and positions within categories is where the real challenge (and slagging) take place.

Thanks to Mick Reynolds (Head Marshal), Paul Crowley (Race Organiser) for their work on the night and also Carmel Dolan who looked after the video finish again.

League Positions after Stage 3:

Blue Category: 1. Pat Weir 2. Nigel Scarff 3. Oliver Bright
Yellow Category: 1. J.P. Kilmurray 2. David Shaw 3. Colm Lynch
Red Category: 1. Stuart Cox 2. Dave Fagan 3. Damien Shaw
Overall: Joint 1st Stuart Cox / J.P. Kilmurray 3. Dave Fagan

-Please check the marshal rota to ensure you are aware of your allotted marshalling night. We ask that swaps are only done when the situation arises that you cannot attend the event. Please don’t swap nights unless really necessary. Race Organisers/Head Marshals are not available for swaps. As before please contact Mark Monaghan ( / 087 9656778) to update the rota if you must swap and have arranged swap with someone else.

The Race Organiser cannot accept membership payments on the night as insurance cover is not in place until Cycling Ireland are notified with your details by the Club Secretary.

As per league rules, riders may be moved up or down a colour category as deemed necessary at any time in the league.

People are cooperating with marshals in keeping the pub car park clear for the race start which is great. The main area for parking is at the church in Dysart. While there is some space to fit cars on the hard shoulder of the Horseleap Road (left hand side as you travel towards Mullingar) can I ask people to keep this area free from cars. If this area is clear the corner is less congested and safer in a situation where a car does not stop/slow when the race is turning the corner. It also allows a clearer view for passing motorists as to where there approaching cyclists are.
