(Racing Reports by Billy Cunnane)
On Sunday 28th July we had a team of 6 in Donore Co. Louth for the Brendan Campbell Memorial Race. In the underage event, Conor Canton and Thomas Kilmurray lined up in the 25 strong bunch for 6 laps of a 6.4km lumpy Circuit. From the off the pace was high with the lads placed well in the bunch. However on lap 3 the lads were unlucky to get caught behind a crash. Both lads lost touch with the breakaway riders and chased hard to get back on for the remaining 20km. Neither lads managed to make contact but Conor was the best placed wheeler finishing around 10th position.

The main event for A1/A2/A3/Junior riders was a handicapped race which was ran over 13 laps of the 6.4km circuit. We were represented in A1 by John Murray. The finish came down to a sprint with John finishing in the bunch.

All the action however was to be in the A4 race. Aidan Farrell, Matt Burke and Roy Carey lined up in the 70 strong bunch for 8 laps of the 6.4km circuit. From the drop of the flag the pace was high with numerous attacks being attempted but all being brought back in by the bunch. The race then settled down until on lap 5 a breakaway was successful in pulling a sizeable gap. Matt Burke made an attempt to bridge across but was unsuccessful and suffered as a result, almost being dropped off the back of the main group on one of the climbs. Roy Carey managed to get him onto his wheel and was successful in keeping him in contention. The break was brought back by the hard working main bunch in which Aidan Farrell was instrumental putting in a huge effort all day. The finish came down to a bunch sprint with Matt Burke 4th, Aidan Farrell 10th in his first A4 race and Roy Carey finishing in the top end of the bunch. Matt has secured another 5 points and is edging closer to the A3 Category. Well done lads.

Midland League Round 11.
On Thursday 25th July Laois CTC hosted round 11 of the Midland League. 44 riders signed on across all categories to tackle the 8km TT hill climb from Clonaslee village to the cut in the Slieve Blooms. All the Wheelers acquitted themselves very well with Peter Rimmer in the A category posting the quickest time overall on the evening in a time of 19 minutes 17 seconds. Next Midland league report will be on Round 12 from Abbeyshrule Co. Longford.

Leinster Youth League Finals.
On Saturday 27th July Conor Canton travelled to Roundwood in Co. Wicklow to compete in the Leinster Youth League Finals. Conor was in the U16 category and the first event off on the day was an 8km TT. He rode very well finishing just 45 seconds off the leader. In the afternoon race Conor suffered a mechanical problem and unfortunately had to pull out. Hard luck Conor but I'm sure the experience will stand too you.
