Busy Weekend on the Racing Scene

On Saturday three Wheelers travelled to Summerhill for the Mick Lally Memorial race. This is another of the popular early season races designed to get the legs and heart rates pumped up over a short but difficult course. Lakeside Wheelers were represented by Mossie Keane and Tommy Casserly in the A4 event whilst Eoghan Kevlihan took to the line in the A3 race. This was Tommy’s first outing in an Open Race and he did exceptionally well to finish with Mossie in the top 15. Eoghan had a good run out also finishing comfortably in the A3 bunch.

On Sunday another contingent of Wheelers went to Navan for the prestigious Cycleways Cup. There was more good news here as newbie Wheeler Alan Connolly took a fabulous 2nd in the A4 race whilst both Joe Kenny and Colin Lynch finished just outside the gallop.

This is a very important race on the Irish cycling calendar and the A1 event is always very keenly contested. An Post Chainreaction Sean Kelly man, Damien Shaw is home from the continent so he decided to enter this race which he has won for the last two years. Well, 2016 will not see a new name on this great trophy as Shaw yet again took the honours as he literally rode away from the top class field. This was definitely a good day’s work for the Mullingar man ahead of his next professional appearance in Belgium next weekend in the Three Days of West Flanders race which will see him tackle the infamous road furniture which this area is renowned for.
Well done to all Wheelers who competed over the weekend.
