Weekend Cycles

Sunday last was yet another fabulous sunny day and perfect for our weekly spin. The good weather was reflected by a large turnout in ORS where everybody was in good form.
At time of typing I can only report on the antics of the A group who clocked a very fast (avg speed 21mph) 60 mile spin out to Summerhill, Enfield and home via the old N4. The coffee was had in Callaghys outside Enfield and the hammer really went down once we had cleared Kinnegad. As usual I was not in a position to witness the first over the imaginary line but no doubt whoever it was will have someone who will contest the outcome!
As a side note to Sunday cycling we ask that in future, all members please line up according to your chosen group for the day alongside the appropriately placed A, B and C signs on the perimeter fence. This makes it much easier for group leaders to see how big their respective groups are and to sub-divide when necessary. This is very important for safety on the roads.
Tour of the Glens 2010

On Saturday last a group of Wheelers met up in Broughshane, Co. Antrim for the annual Tour of the Glens, with the Ballymena Road Club and our friends in the Michelin tyre factory. The sun shone gloriously all day which made the trip all the more enjoyable as the scenery in this part of Ireland is spectacular. The trip consists of a 65 mile trip around the coast where the clear skies made Mull of Kintyre in Scotland almost seems to be within touching distance and then up through the famous Glens of Antrim where the climbs would test the best of riders. Overall it was one of those fabulous days in the saddle which reminds us why we do this crazy if sometimes torturous sport. Wheelers who participated were Joe Duffy, Noel Kennedy, John Nugent, Cathy O’Toole and Shay O’Toole.
