How quickly the weeks are flying by! We are now into the third week of our five week long beginners program. A few people had indicated to me last week, that they would not be around this week but would be back for the fourth week but still we had 16 participants sign on for this third session which is fantastic. Despite it being slightly cooler than last week it was a good dry morning and our leaders for this week, Paraic and Claire went through the cycling safety tips and then gave an excellent talk on the importance of good nutritional habits for both on and off the bike.

We divided into two groups and again headed out the gates of ORS with a gap of a couple of minutes between each group. This time we headed in the direction of Tyrrellspass via Dalystown and all the participants negotiated the narrow stretch of road along there particularly well.

A "sit down" stop was on the cards this week and all enjoyed tea/coffee/scones etc. in Tyrellspass Castle and it’s a great way for people to get to know each other and relax for a little while.

Both groups then headed back in the direction of Dalystown but turned right just before the main road and then left and headed across country and back out on the Rochfortbridge road at Simonstown and headed back by Gainstown and in along the by-pass to the ORS. At the end of the spin we had a fantastic 42Km under our belts. Well done everyone.

I can see each week how everyone is getting more used to cycling in a group and improving their cycling skills and I certainly hope are really enjoying the spins because that is also what it's all about, enjoyment.

A big thank you to the volunteers from Lakeside Wheelers who led the groups and looked after everyone and made sure everything ran smoothly. Without the volunteers, programs such as this could not be run.

Our next session is on Saturday April 7th and I look forward to seeing you all again.
