One of the mainstays of the pre-Christmas training plan was the weekly Wednesday evening spin on the Old Rail Trail greenway. These spins were extremely well attended and are great for endurance training. Good quality lights are necessary for these spins and although they are very safe they do give a very different perspective to normal daylight cycling.

So, if you haven’t yet tried it out why not come along any Wednesday evening at 6.20pm for a 6,30pm start. The normal route is to Moate and back which usually takes two hours. The meeting point (weather permitting) is at the car park just opposite the entrance to the Greenway in the industrial estate.

While on the subject of the Old Rail Trail Greenway, a new 2.2km section is now open on the Athlone end, extending the trail from Garrycastle bridge to the "White Gates" level crossings on the R915 Ballymahon Road, a total of 42km.
