News of a number of local sportives over the coming weeks and months...

Alan Moran Memorial Sportive
Route details for the Alan Moran Memorial Sportive which takes place on Saturday May 7th have been released in recent days. This event, to remember the former Lakeside Wheeler who sadly passed away last year is being organised by some of Alan’s close friends including Wheeler, Derek Sheeran, and looks like it will be a great day out.

In keeping with current sportive trends, there will be two routes with a 40km and 90km option. The HQ will be in St Mary’s secondary school, Edenderry with sign-on open at 8am and the first group scheduled to leave at 10am.

The 40km route leaves Edenderry for Rhode, Croghan, Daingean and back to Edenderry with tea/snacks in Daingean. The 90km spin leaves Edenderry for Rhode, Rochfortbridge, Mullingar, Tyrellspass, Croghan, Daingean and back to Edenderry.

Refreshments on this route will be served in Mullingar Shamrocks GAA club.  Organisers encourage anyone interested in participating to visit the Alan Moran Memorial Cycle Facebook page which includes details of a very impressive commemoration jersey which can be purchased in advance. All proceeds from this very worthwhile cycle will go towards supplying defibrillators in Mullingar and Edenderry. Online registration is available at www.eventmaster.ie

Greene Farm Foods Sportive
Meanwhile the Greene Farm Foods 25th anniversary Charity Sportive and 5km Fun Run was formally launched last week with a photoshoot in the Market Square. It will take place on May bank holiday Sunday in Multyfarnham. Details of times, sign-on venue, routes etc will be included in the notes over the coming weeks. The 130km course was reccied over the weekend and suffice it to say it's quite the route

Annual Lions Club Cycle
Mullingar Lions Club is also its annual cycle on Easter Saturday, March 26th. Members can get more details from Maurice Molloy who is a regular Saturday morning cyclist or alternatively keep an eye out here for further posts in the coming weeks.
