Hilly Junior Spin after Armchair Activities

posted 3 Sept 2012, 05:45 by Kevin Monaghan   [ updated 3 Sept 2012, 05:47 ]
A group of ten juniors and two adults set off from outdoor escape on this breezy Saturday morning. We headed to Lough Sheever Park to practice our handling and cornering with Mick Reynolds giving us some valuable advice on bike control. After that we were invited in to Grange Motors to watch and support Damien Shaw and James Brown on the track in the Paralympics, well done Damien and thanks to all in Grange Motors for inviting us in.

We then headed out on our proper spin with the group making its way out to Clonkill and up through crazy corner. Soon after came the hills and after numerous attacks from different riders Conor Canton narrowly claimed this week’s king of the mountains with the rest of us not far behind him.

Crookedwood was the next stop and the group worked well together on the way in. Again there was a bit of attacking on the hills but this time it wasn't just the juniors throwing in attacks (Mark). We then proceeded to eat up the miles as we made our way into Multyfarnham where we stopped to rehydrate and refuel.

Piggery hill was next and with a lot of legs burning after the steep climb we made our way back to Mullingar via Cullion. By the time we arrived back to outdoor escape we had three or four good hills and a solid 55km in the legs.

Thanks to everyone who turned out this week and thanks to Mick Reynolds and Mark Monaghan for being group leaders this week.
