It may have been the season of peace and goodwill but it didn’t stop the guys and gals from Lakeside Wheelers getting out on the bikes for some festive miles. The main reason for the frequency with which the members kept up the pedaling over the Christmas was the exceptionally dry and calm weather which is highly unusual for this time of year.

The traditional Turkey Trot spin was held this year on Tuesday December 27th and was probably the best attended to date. On a lovely sunny morning, close on 100 riders departed the clubhouse for the salubrious surroundings of New Forest golf club in Tyrrellspass. The outward route was direct along the N52 to this beautiful parkland where we were treated to freshly baked fruit scones and mince pies with pots of tea and coffee to replenish the riders who were meant to be stretching the legs after the excess of turkey and ham.

There was a great atmosphere in the tea rooms as several members arrived out just for the social occasion. This is now a well established spin on the club calendar and great credit is due to the staff of New Forest for the catering on the day. Thanks also to President Donie Kelliher for taking time to take photographs including an amazing group photo with everybody in frame.
