Underage Group News

Mark Eivers has been looking after the youth side of things over the past few weeks, taking the underage cyclists for the Saturday workout and he sent in a report on progress…
"A group of 12 youths departed ORS on a beautiful autumn morning bound for Castletown Geoghegan. The route took us along the canal cycle path to Ballinea. From Ballinea we travelled to Dysart before splitting the group into two. The first group routed for Streamstown taking a left turn to arrive into Castletown G. The second group routed directly from Dysart to Castletown G. After refreshments the two groups departed back for Mullingar with one group returning via Dysart and the other via Lilliput.
We were very happy to have Jack Kennedy join us for his first youth cycle and it was also great to see Eoin Ashe, Ciara Reynolds, Robert Shaw, Darragh Tone and Shane Hughes back again.

As the youth group has grown steadily to a point where there are now up to 15 cyclists regularly turning up at ORS on Saturday mornings, it is inevitable that group splitting will be a feature of our Saturday morning cycle for the future. This is necessary in the interest of safety and also to cater for the various levels of ability within the group.

As hinted at in last week’s notes we intend to add a little variety to our cycle next week. Next Saturday the youth group plans to travel to Ballinastoe mountain bike trail in Co. Wicklow to attempt the 18km purpose built Coillte MTB bike trial. We plan to depart ORS at 9am and we have sent an e-mail to the parents with full details of the outing. As a result, there will be no road cycle for the youths next Saturday. In the event that the weather turns nasty and we are forced to cancel Ballinastoe we will instead take the youths mountain biking along the canal. "
