St. Stephens Day Fun
River Crossing at Clan Lir
Yet again this year David and Ann Marie Fagan welcomed a host of people to the beautiful surroundings of “Teach Lir” on the banks of Lough Derravaragh. With temperatures a little bit higher than last year, it promised to be a great morning’s fun.

First up was an hour’s mountain bike ride around the picturesque setting of the whole estate taking in some beautiful scenery. Although I didn’t get to do the entire ride as I broke my chain, I did manage to get it fixed in time, thanks to Steve Franzoni, to meet up with everybody who was daring enough to cross through the “river” rather than over it! A good bit of craic ensued with some badger bating to those who wouldn’t risk the crossing and for those who didn’t I think ye were right as most of us ended up getting very wet, some more so than others!

It was the back to Dave’s house for a quick transition & out for a leisurely run. With the run completed it was on to the third part of our Fun triathlon the swim or quick plunge would describe it better. Another quick transition it was down to the lake for all us mad men and women for a very, very quick dip into the lake! After a quick change we were all treated to some well-deserved refreshments!  Thanks very much David & Ann Marie it was a brilliant day & it was very much appreciated.

Turkey Trot - A welcome Revival

Wednesday 28th December saw the return of the Lakeside Wheelers Turkey trot, a leisurely spin aimed at keeping the legs going over the Christmas and also helping us try and work off all that turkey from the previous days!

The meeting point as usual was ORS for 10:30 (or 9 o’clock for a few of us wishing to get in a few extra miles). From there the various groups made their way to Multyfarnham via different routes to meet at Weirs bar for some more indulgence in the form of tea, coffee & scones.  It was great to see so many Wheelers make the effort to come out and enjoy the mornings spin and as an added bonus everyone in attendance was entered into a free draw for some lovely spot prizes. A special thank you has to go to Carmel Dolan for organising the draw and to Steven Franzoni (Outdoor Escape), Dorothy Duffy (Tri & Run) and Pat Weir (Weirs Bar) for donating all the prizes.

Thanks also to Pat and all the staff for welcome us in and looking after us all so well. After eating and drinking our fill we headed for home via Piggery Hill.
