The Hills Are Alive
Another spring-like,albeit on the windy side, morning greeted us in O.R.S on Sunday morning for our third Sunday spin in our base three of our winter training plan. As we received our route directions from group leader Mark Horohoe, it became very apparent that we were in for another mystery tour with a lot of hills and a lot of pain involved.

With over twenty riders, we split into two groups as per club protocol.  With a very strong headwind we set out towards Castlepollard, with the rolling roads around Crookedwood setting the tone for the day! From ‘pollard it was on towards Finea and Killydoon and around the banks of Lough Gowna.  On these stretches of roads we never really got much of a break from the hills we were either going up one or down one with very little flats in the middle.

When we eventually got to Aghnacliff for our well-earned Tea stop we even had go get up a steep ascent to reach our watering hole.  After a quick refuel (some of us were tempted to take on some petrol from the pumps) we headed towards Ballynalee where even more climbing ensued. I never knew such big climbs existed in Longford! From Ballynalee we headed towards Edgeworthstown in the knowledge that when we got there, we would have the comfort of a strong tailwind to blow us back home.

All in all it was a great day in the saddle with nearly four hours in the legs and over 800 meters of climbing in our legs. Well done to all today and especially to Mark Horohoe for choosing another great training route. I’m sure if we all stick to the rest of the training plan we will be in a great position come the start of the racing season.

A Group Sleeve Bloom Spin
As part of the A group training plan, Base 3 week 4, we are looking at going to sleeve blooms on Sunday next. We will be meeting at the rear car-park of the Tullamore Court Hotel at 8:30 a.m. ( not as per published in papers) This spin will only take place if weather conditions are good & we will be in touch towards the end of the week when Mark has spoken to Met Èireann’s Jean Byrne!
