Sunday, September 18th “A day tinged with sadness”

posted 21 Sept 2011, 13:30 by Kevin Monaghan   [ updated 28 Sept 2011, 05:56 ]

There was great sadness and disbelief amongst members who congregated for the weekly spin last Sunday as news spread of the tragic death of our dear friend and fellow member, Ann Henry. Whilst Ann was an infrequent cyclist on the Sunday spins, she made regular appearances throughout the year to sharpen her fitness for the two big charity cycles of the year to Sligo and Galway. Ann, a vibrant and sociable person was always willing to lend a hand with club events and our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time in their lives. As a small gesture from Lakeside Wheelers, this week’s cycle was dedicated to Ann’s memory and those members present were asked to keep her in their thoughts during the spin.

In light of these tragic circumstances the route chosen for the spin was irrelevant but as the rain held off and the wind turned in our favour we all believed that someone was looking down on us from above. May Ann rest in peace.
