Steve Franzoni Finishes Strongly in Rás Day 1

Steven Franzoni became an A1 last year and has since been planning his training and race season around competing in the Rás. Steven has competed in races such as the tour of Kerry and the Shay Elliott Memorial by way of training to prepare for the ultimate bike race in Ireland, 8 days, long stages, typical Rás weather and competition from full time professional race teams. The club league on Thursday last was a good indicator that he's peaking at the right time after he rode a strong race taking the win with relative ease.

Day 1 went extremely well as Steve found himself in a 30 man break containing race favourites including the An Post team and eventual stage winner Dean Downey from Rapha. There was a crash in the main lead bunch which brought the group back together denying Franzoni of a 2 minute time gap. Steven is encouraged by his Stage 1 performance but insists doing up and overs with the Pro’s is not easy!

Good luck to Steve throughout the week and keep an eye on irishcycling.com for race progress.
