The 2016 Tour of Britain concluded today with the final stage featuring a 100km circuit race around London city centre. Damien Shaw of the An Post Chainreaction Sean Kelly team rode well all week in the service of his team who finished off the week with their sprinter Jasper Bovenhuis winning the Sprints jersey.

This race is now one of the best in the world and the crowds that turned out each day were phenomenal. It was a major step up in standard for Damien as he was competing against several of the best world tour riders and to have finished the eight-day stage race is a huge achievement for him and bodes very well for his development as a professional rider.

His performance did not go unnoticed as he has subsequently been selected to represent Ireland in the Elite road race at the European cycling championships in Brittany, France next weekend. This is a big endorsement of his progression and potential so best wishes to him for the future.
