Spring Spin 2011

Last weekend saw a major exodus of Wheelers as the fourth Spring Spin to Sligo was staged over Saturday and Sunday. This event in aid of the North Westmeath Hospice Homecare Foundation is very popular with Lakeside Wheelers members, and is organised by our own Paraic Devine and Kevin Monaghan.

Once again the weather Gods were on side as the first of four groups departed Mullingar last Saturday at 9am and by 10.30am there was 120 riders happily making their way along the N4. At approximately 4.30pm all had arrived in Sligo in various states of exhaustion with 85 miles in their legs and the daunting prospect of having to do it all again the next day on the return leg. Sunday also brought a beautiful dry sunny day as we cycled out of Sligo back to Mullingar. The Downs GAA clubhouse was a welcome sight to us all at about 4pm on Sunday and after a well deserved coffee and pastry it was time for the shower.

As usual with events like this, there is a huge support team and along with the organising committee, they can all be extremely proud of their efforts with Spring Spin 2011.
