(By Mark Monaghan) We’re only five weeks into what is going to be a long racing season but already we have notched up our second victory in the A4 ranks. On St. Patricks Day we had another team of Wheelers flying the colours in Dunboyne for the annual St. Patricks day race hosted by Usher cycling club. After all the hard work that has been put in by racing team over the winter, it is brilliant to see that all this effort hasn’t been wasted and that result are starting come in thick and fast. Damien O’Brien took the win on Saturday in the A4 race, on what I believe was a very hotly contested bunch sprint. Damien O’Brien shows his early season form by winning the A4 race. In the A4 race Eoghan Kevlihan, Billy Cunnane and Damien O Brien were all trying to be aggressive and form breaks throughout the race but the bunch eventually stayed together until the end with a very fast finishing 4km. Comith the hour...comith the man....Damien kept following the right wheels in very slippery and dangerous conditions but he kept his nerve and inched his way to the front and in a photo finish powered his way first to the line. It's a first open win for Damien now who is now borderline A3 with 9 points and he deserves this win with all the hard yards his has put in last winter. Our ‘Cavendish’ will be a hard man to stop in the next sprint finish with his confidence high. Well done Damien! Newbridge Grand Prix We had another good representative of racers today (Sunday) in the Newbridge GP. Today’s circuit was an undulating challenge, with a very fast finishing approach. Most successful of our riders today (Sunday) was Peter Rimmer in the A1/A2 category who got 4th unplaced A2 by getting himself into a break off the peleton. Well done to all the racing team. |
