What a season it is turning out to be for John Murray, as yet again he came up trumps last Sunday week in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow where he crossed the line in first place. Last weekend he was down in Waterford taking on the pros and semi pros in the Suir Valley 3 day - more about this next week.
There was also success for Sarah Pinnear in the recent All Ireland Track Championships held the weekend before last. I have to confess I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to this discipline of cycling and was only last week asking Sarah how the different elements of the track events work. Sarah took a silver medal home from these championships in the scratch race which is like a road race as it’s over 25 laps and she also fared very well in some of the other races. Well done Sarah, and as with John, keep the Lakeside flag flying.

We also had a representation in Donamon, Co Roscommon last Sunday week for their GP. However I believe there was a fairly major crash in the A2/3 race which took the wind out of the sails of many riders. Thankfully there was no Lakeside member involved in this accident.

Next weekend we will have a team travelling to Ballinrobe in Mayo for the very popular two day event, so best of luck to you all and hopefully we will see some of you on the podium.

Last Thursday week we held the penultimate leg of our summer race league and as usual it was well attended, with almost 50 riders taking part. Unfortunately there was a touching of wheels in the closing stages which resulted in three riders coming down. This is the first accident in the history of our race league so overall we have an excellent safety record. Best wishes to Carmel and Jimmy for a speedy recovery and everybody in Lakeside Wheelers looks forward to seeing you both back on the bikes as soon as possible.
For the latest standings in the league please watch your emails for Mark’s posting. Weather permitting our Social Officer, Adrian Murphy is organising a very informal BBQ to coincide with the final round of the league which takes place on Wednesday, August 11th. Adrian will be serving his speciality burgers at the finish area and we hope to use this opportunity to present the long overdue prizes from the fun TT which was held as a warm up to our annual criterium last June.
If you have never been to the race league this would be an ideal chance to come out and see what this exciting league is all about and you never know, next year you might even give it a try.
