Last Sunday the clubhouse was once again the place to be as the Lakeside Wheelers Racing Team attended a training day under the watchful eye of Peak Endurance Training head coach, Mr Paddy Doran. Paddy is one of our most successful cycling coaches with many years of experience at both domestic and international level. The retired postman has been responsible for putting several of our best home-based riders on the road to international success but is probably most famous for helping scores of riders through Ireland’s “Grand Tour”, the Rás.

This training day was organised by Derek Sheeran and Eoghan Kevlihan for any members who have designs on competing in open races in the coming year. Paddy started the day off with a 45 minute run to get the group warmed up followed by a short spin to assess bike position and bike handling skills. The dreadful weather once again hampered the day’s proceedings and everybody was glad to get back to the clubhouse for a change into dry clothing and a snack.

After lunch the group sat down to listen to Paddy’s words of wisdom on race tactics and team cycling. By all accounts it was an extremely enjoyable day so hopefully we will see the fruits of the lessons learned in the 2016 racing season. Well done to all concerned for the organisation and thanks to Paddy Doran for his time.
