As reported recently, o there is a new locally based sportive in the pipeline this year. The Greene Farm Foods Charity Sportive is a venture pioneered by club member Ken Greene, who’s hugely successful business, Greene Farm Foods, is celebrating 25 years in business this year. In an attempt to give something back to the community on a local, national and international level, Ken has decided to organise a charity sportive and Fun Run which, while being two separate events, will both take place on Sunday May 1st. This new event will be based out of Multyfarnham with cyclists having the option of doing either a 130km or a 60km route. The separate Fun Run will be over 5km and will also be based in Multyfarnham.

Ken and his colleagues have selected the North Westmeath Hospice, Aware and Sightsavers as the chosen charities to benefit from all monies raised at this event and hopes that there will be a huge turnout to support it.

The cycling routes (see map below) will both leave Multyfarnham in the direction of Coole and Granard where they will split with the rolling 130km route heading to Ballinagh and Lough Gowna in Co. Cavan before returning via Aughnacliffe, Ballinalee and Rathowen in Co. Longford. The shorter version will turn in Granard for Finea and return via Castlepollard.

So, if you are one of the cyclists coming out of hibernation or a seasoned all-weather rider, get the training started for this early season event and mark Sunday May 1st in your diary for the Greene Farm Foods Charity Sportive. More details will follow in the coming weeks.
