The annual Into the West charity cycle took place last Saturday and Sunday with over 140 riders making the 200 mile round trip from Mullingar to Galway. Although there were a few showers on Saturday, most people were happy with the spin down and by all accounts, spirits were very good in Eyre square.
Sunday was even better, with near perfect cycling conditions which led to a very fast pace on the return journey. As usual this was a very well organised event and no doubt there will be a sizeable amount of money raised for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
For those of you who made the trip for the first time, a hearty congratulations to you all, as I’m sure you will agree it is no mean achievement to complete two 100 mile cycles on consecutive days. With the very bad conditions of 2009 only a distant memory the 2010 spin looks like it has brought the sparkle back to this worthwhile event so roll on 2011.
Thankfully, there was only one slight mishap, because as we all know the most important thing with these spins is that everybody gets home safely with all other factors being cured by a glass of wine, a pint, a good sleep or all of the above.
Heading off into the West on Saturday morning from the Park Hotel...

...and back on Sunday afternoon with 200 miles in the legs...
