Greg LeMond Visits The Royal County

On Sunday last (7th October) world famous and three-times Tour de France Winner Greg LeMond, who was in country promoting charities and awareness for ADHD, took to the roads of the Royal County. The cycle seemed to be somewhat of a closely guarded secret , however  two of our Wheelers - David Bright and Donnie Kelleher - managed to get wind of it and made the short trip to Trim to cycle alongside the American Legend.

The spin took in a thirty mile loop which also included a climb up the hill of Tara where Dave led the group up to the summit, with Greg sitting on his wheel, who commented on the severity of the rolling royal county countryside, of one of Ireland’s monument climbs, where huge crowds had gathered to catch a glimpse of Le Mondster.

After the stop where everybody got some autographs, photos and a quick chat, where Greg said he would take it easy on the return leg, which didn’t last long with the pace climbing up to over 20mph, with LeMond to the fore, on one of his own bikes and wearing his world champions’ helmet and in the company of our near Neighbours Clonard CC who had organised the event. From what David was telling me it was an extremely enjoyable spin and of course for a great cause. Well done lads and thanks for flying the flag for the club.
