First Pro Win & Yellow Jersey for Damien Shaw

Fantastic news from France as Damien Shaw claimed the first win of his professional career in France yesterday. He did so in typical Shaw fashion, attacking from a breakaway group which was being reeled in by the peloton late in the race to claim a solo victory and also the yellow jersey in the opening stage of he five day Tour du Loir-et-Cher.

The win is all the more impressive given that this is Damien's first pro race of the season - a season that has been late to start for him due to injuries suffered earlier in the year while training at home and reflects the massive effort he's put in since that setback.

Damien is part of a six-man An Post Chainreaction team taking part in the race which also includes Jonas Bokeloh (Germany), Przemyslaw Kasperkiewicz (Poland), Sean McKenna & Conor Hennebry (Ireland) and Jacob Scott (Great Britian).

Damien was part of a seven man break that got away from the peloton of over 160 riders on day one of the Tour du Loir-et-Cher, a 155km stage from Blois to Mont-Près-Chambord.  In the closing stages of the race, as the peloton closed in on the breakaway, one of the riders - An Post Rás stage winner Thomas Rostollan - attacked from the breakaway group.  Shaw immediately countered this move, overtaking Rostollan to take victory on the stage by 4 seconds and overall lead in the race general classification.  He holds a 6 second lead overall going into the second stage, having picked up 10 bonus seconds for this stage win.

The race continues today with a 184km stage between La Ferte Imbault and Vernou en Sologne, with the remaining stages over the Easter weekend. We look forward to hearing how Damien fares as he and his An Post Chainreaction team defend the yellow jersey.

Congratulations to Damien on this marvelous result from everyone in Lakeside Wheelers and we wish you and your team continued success in the race and the remainder of the season.
