Destination Sport Family Cycling Day - Sunday 23rd June

posted 11 Jun 2013, 14:59 by Kevin Monaghan
Calling all Lakeside Wheelers to keep Sunday 23rd June free.  For the fourth year running we will have something for all the family with an Inter Firms time trial, Sprocket Rocket and Club Criterium racing on the closed streets of Mullingar.  Our criterium route has been shortened this year as we exclude Dominick St. / Grove St.; instead we turn left at Dominick St. roundabout down the side of Galvin's Menswear into Blackhall car park. Pearse St will be closed off to house "A Taste of Mullingar" with arts, crafts, food stalls and street entertainment including tug of war.

Inter Firms Time Trial
Now is the time to get your Inter Firms team of four together, email   with your team name and participants.   Each team member should have the same colour top and entry is €10 per team and remember no packed teams allowed.   This has become a very popular event over the past few years so we will have to limit entry to the first 25 team entries received, first come first served. Start time is 2pm sharp, you will have three laps and each team is timed on the third person over the line.

Tandems & Rockets
Next up on the starting line will be the Sports Partnership tandems and Monday group who will do a number of leisurely laps on the criterium route. This will be followed by the main event of the day the "Sprocket Rockets" parade. Shane Corcoran and the club Sprocket Rocket group leaders will lead out several hundred kids around the closed roads of the town for a few laps.

Invitation Criterium
The evening will finish off with the Club Invitation Criterium which will start at 4pm sharp. An invitation is going out to our neighbouring clubs and riders will be graded similar to the Midland League. First race will cater for the C/D group and the second for the A/B group. We will have two separate races of approximately 25 minutes duration. Sign on will be from 1:30 to 2:30pm in the Greville Arms (market sq. entrance) entry €10.
