Cyclo Cross Season Draws To A Close

The Cyclo Cross season is now drawing to a close and the Mullingar crew have been achieving some success. If you haven't heard of Cyclo Cross racing it involves racing around parks, forest and some sections of tarmac for up to an hour of very intense action (pure hardship) with some running. We have been racing North and South of the border for the last two months in all kinds of conditions. Of note we have had a total of six podiums over the weeks. The most consistent rider being Michelle O'Halloran who has had a second and third, Sonja O'Mahony managed a third place in her first race.

In the men's categories the young talent that is David Boyne has had two 3rd places among his many crashes. Richie Lenehan had a very impressive 2nd place in St. Annes Park Dublin in the B category showing how strong he is becoming. Locals Peter Rimmer, Stuart Cox, Paul Crowley, Henry Winston, Eoin O'Donohoe and myself (Steven Franzoni) have all been racing hard through the season gathering form. A young talent Dylan Franzoni has been dragging his dad on 3 hours drives up to the north to compete in the under 8s races (no races down south for him) and getting better positions each week. Three hours for 8 minutes races seems excessive - maybe we can do something a bit more local next year.

As the season begins to wind down the national championships in the new year is the last goal and surely the girls and David Boyne could be in contention for medals the way they have been riding.  Watch this space for a report.
