The Saturday night of a cyclist usually consists of a bit of preparation of the bike and the gear for the upcoming spin the following morning. Another thing that has to be done is to tune into the weather, not just in the hope that Jean Byrne will be wearing that dress again! But we have to take note of the conditions for the upcoming spin in the morning. Will it rain? Where is the wind coming from? How cold or warm will it be? Well as I sat and waited in anticipation to get all my questions answered, I got the word to send out the text message to cancel the official club Spin from our group leaders Mark & Eamon. You see when you become a group leader you don’t have to wait for the weather, you get in touch with the woman herself Jean, only group leaders are trusted with her phone number!   To be fair to the leaders these decisions are not easy to make and not everybody will agree with them but remember these decisions are made with you the rider’s safety in mind.

So as with most other members I had a bit of a dilemma on my hands. What do I do in the morning, turbo trainer or try and hold off till a little later in the day and get a few hours in. Thankfully I chose the latter and managed to get out for three hours in the morning with a couple of other brave souls. To say it was cold was a bit of an understatement but nonetheless we soldiered on and went for an out and back spin to Moate via Rochfortbridge on the old N6 road. Thanks for an enjoyable spin lads and here’s hoping this cold snap doesn’t effect too many more Sunday spins.
