B(oat) Group Sail through the floods!

When I sat down to map out a route on Saturday evening for the Sunday morning spin, I didn't take into consideration how bad the floods on the roads would be. So a last minute change of plan was required.  It was decided that we would take a route that would mean no coffee break and with the rain that was falling I think it was a wise choice.

Heading out the road we split into two groups of 11. The 1st group led out by Mick Reynolds were only up the road when they were pulled up with a dreaded puncture, but it wasn’t long before the two groups were flying out the road, passing the familiar parishes of Dysart and Castletown Geoghegan.  I felt a certain déjà vu, was that Karl Moran on my wheel? As the last time I cycled these roads was in the summer league, only this time he flew up the hill in a fixed gear bike….handicap committee are you listening!

On towards Kilbeggan passing the racecourse, we turned left for Tyrrellspass, up a wee hill and on to Rochfortbridge.  With the shout alerts for flooding on the road constantly being called, it was good to see the two new members to the group, Henry Whitston from Kinnegad, and Noel Devine from Castlepollard sticking in there.  A steady pace was kept up until we arrived at the ORS.  Well done lads, with an average speed of 27km/h and 60km done in those conditions you should be proud of yourselves. Thanks also to those who bought a ticket for the Valentines Social Night.  I will have tickets available next Sunday 5th Feb. for anyone wishing to purchase some.
