Another Successful Tour Of The Lakes

The club’s annual sportive, the Tour of the Lakes, took place on Sunday June 12th and was once again a huge success. The weather was perfect for cycling and as a result the registration team was very busy with close on 200 riders signing on.

At 10am the first of the groups rolled out to complete the various route options on offer. For the seasoned campaigners there was a tough 120km route made up of two spins of 70km and a 50km with a break for refreshments back at base after 70km. This left the less hardened with the choice of doing either the 50km or the 70km routes which is a new addition to the Tour. There was also the now customary, 30km spin organised by the Westmeath Sports Partnership for beginners which is always a big success.

The 70km spin took the riders through the north of the county via Gartlandstown, Collinstown, Fore, Castlepollard, Multyfarnham and Crookedwood. After the break the tour continued via Ballynacarrigy, Skeagh, Loughnavalley, Ballymore and back to base via Ballinea.

Many thanks to all members who volunteered for sign-on, marshalling, driving, group leading and all the usual jobs that have to be done to ensure events like this are run off successfully. Thanks also to the Youth Café for their excellent catering service.
