Group A Soak Up The Weather on Sunday!

The A group left ORS with great intentions to do a good 95km spin via Tyrellspass, Tullamore, Daingean, Edenderry and home through Kinnegad. However, we hadn’t banked on the slight drizzle that was falling at 9am, developing into a full blown wind and rain storm.

With Mark Horohoe leading a 13 strong group including junior, Fergal Daly and Steve Franzoni fresh from his Ras experience we set out at a good tempo, but before too long the writing was on the cards that we were in for a torture session. As the winds and rain increased in strength it wasn’t long before we were all drenched and wishing we had stayed in bed.

On reaching Tullamore a group of four turned for home leaving nine of us to struggle against what felt like a storm force gale as we made our way to Daingean. The tea stop here was short and snappy and as we remounted there was talk of reducing the length of the spin as lads were feeling hypothermic. Sense prevailed; Mark called “left” a few km’s outside Daingean which meant we were heading home via Croughan Hill and Tyrellspass. With Robbie up front getting in some speed work for the Lakeside Wheelers promoted, NationalCriterium Championships in Mullingar next Friday, a good high speed was maintained and at an earlier than expected time we were back in ORS.

This wasn’t a day for photos as everyone resembled the proverbial “drowned rats”. Let’s hope the summer returns sometime soon as this cold, wet and windy weather is not very cycling friendly.
