Sam is considered to be one of Ireland's biggest new cycling talents. He is already a two-time national under-23 champion and has also been able to take several wins as a junior, among others his title as a junior points-race champion on the track. He joined Team An Post - Sean Kelly where he stayed for three years and has showed that he is not only a fast sprinter, but also one with great climbing abilities. He celebrated his biggest success when he won stage five of the Tour of Britain in 2013. On the eighth stage, he proved himself to be a strong finisher, when he came second only to world-class sprinter Mark Cavendish. Sam showed great consistency in his young career and thus will already be able to take responsibility in races that suit him.

Bennett revealed that he had a very low point in the mid-season last year but things started to change come August.  He was not feeling well and debated whether he would continue but after a week he realised that there was absolutely nothing else in the world he wanted to do.  He was not prepared to let the dream go and so he started training like a lunatic, put the head down and worked as hard as possible to get into the best condition possible and it paid off.
