Why & when did you take up cycling?
One of my earliest memories is flying down a hill with pedal brakes on a crock of a bike when I was 6 in my home town Portlaoise.  I always wanted to do more cycling when I got older but I could never afford it or make time for it. Long story short, I eventually bought a bike and joined the Wheelers in Mullingar. They’re a wonderful club with lots of different personalities and fun characters. I still try some target practice on the bike from time to time, but it’s generally frowned upon.

No. of hours training during week?
I probably train 5~6 hours a week on the bike.  I try to ensure that I enjoy my training. At the end of the day, if it’s just a drag then it’s not worth spending time on.

Best & worst cycling moment?
Worst: My worst moment in cycling was flying down a wet road on a TT bike in a triathlon in Wicklow. I hit the ground and, as I was wearing a sleeveless tri suit, ripped most of the skin off my shoulder on the rough Wicklow roads … the bike was mostly ok though! ;)

Best: My best moment is really a collection of moments. Riding along in a fast moving group, feeling comfortable, with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair and having a chat with your fellow cyclists … it just doesn't get any better than that!
