Nicholas Roche
Nicolas is a former Irish National Road Race Champion and is the son of Stephen Roche, a former World Champion and winner of the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia. The Roche family is renowned in cycling circles.  Nicholas enjoys huge support in Ireland and France where he was born.

Nicolas has ridden in the Beijing Olympics, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a Espana. However his significant breakthrough came in his first Tour de France in 2009 where he recorded 5 top ten stage finishes on his way to finishing 23rd overall.

Over the last few years Nicolas has continued to develop as a rider and in 2013 he signed for Team Saxo-Tinkoff. He supported teammate Alberto Contador in the 2013 Tour de France and played a key role in helping the Saxo Tinkoff squad win the overall best team award. In September, Nicolas achieved his best ever finish in a Grand Tour race, securing a top 5 position in the three week Tour of Spain. His performance was even more impressive given he won an individual stage and became the first Irishman in 25 years to wear a race leaders jersey at a Grand Tour.

Nicholas will come into the Giro d'Italia in a few weeks time looking to build a strong showing, he will be determined to follow his father Stephen's footsteps by becoming a Grand Tour winner this time around.  Stephen Roche won the Giro, as well as the Tour de France in 1987 and his son has spent a large part of his career under that shadow.  However, Nicolas has now proved that he is a fine cyclist in his own right and is capable of challenging the world's best.
