In 2010 I decided to participate in the Spring Spin Charity Cycle to Sligo. This spin is organised to raise funds for North Westmeath Hospice, a charity which is close to my heart as my Dad was quite ill at the time. After doing this cycle I decided to keep my fitness levels up & joined Lakeside Wheelers which proved to be a great decision as I have lost 3 stone since I started cycling! No of hours training during week? 10-12 hours per week approx during the winter, it can vary in the summer as races are incorporated in my training. Best & Worst Cycling Moments? Best: The highlight was winning the 2013 Grand Prix A4 race in Mullingar which I dedicated to the memory of my Dad. Other great moments of 2013 include winning the Mullingar Criterium, 3 stages of the Midland League and placing 3rd in Emyvale. The above achievements encouraged me to enter the National Vets Road Race and I am looking forward to doing the club proud. Worst: Crashing in the very first 3 road races in 2013 but it didn’t put me off. |
