Off-Road Spin Tuesday 31st May

On an evening when the Wheelers were very active with almost thirty members attending the “Cornering and Sprinting” session in Lough Sheever, we still managed to get five “off- roaders” to convene at ORS for the second of the Lakeside Wheelers’, “rough rides”.

Richie Lenihan led out the troops who consisted of Pairic Devine, Joe Duffy (the other one), Cathy Flynn and Shay O’Toole. It’s great to see Cathy back out on the bike and getting in some miles, it looks like it won’t be long before there are going to be babysitting rotas as well as marshalling rotas to be made up in the Horohoe household!!

This week’s spin took in some lovely forest, river and bog trails out around the Downs. With a nice wind blowing, as it seems to be doing for the last month or so, it was a great relief to get some shelter in amongst the trees. Another redeeming feature of these spins is the almost complete absence of cars that we are more used to on our road spins. Richie managed to include several surfaces on this 16 mile loop from grass to mud to cobbles and a small bit of road.

Richie has an extensive programme of events lined up for the off-road section of the club this summer so keep an eye on the text, email and website for details to be published soon.
