Hopefully mother nature will cooperate - the long range weather forecast looks okay so far so fingers crossed!

Hill Climb - Multyfarnham Sunday 14th October

posted 4 Oct 2012, 13:28 by Kevin Monaghan   [ updated 4 Oct 2012, 13:46 ]

2011 Hill Climb
The annual Lakeside Wheelers Club Hill Climb  will take place on Sunday 14th October in Multyfarnham. The Sunday morning club spin will start as normal from ORS car park at 9:00am.  The A, B and C group leaders will decide the route so as to allow the group return through Multyfarnham village for 11:00am.

Members can then decide if the they wish to take part in the hill climb (we hope everyone would give it a go) and have their tea and scone in Weir's pub in Multyfarnham after their climb or go straight for the tea and scones in Weirs and then continue their Sunday spin.   Thanks to Weirs Pub  who will open early to facilitate the tea stop for those heading straight back to Mullingar and then for the other riders after their run on the hill climb.

The first rider will be off at 11.20.  The course is from Multyfarnham village to the entrance of Wilson's Hospital school (approx 2.5km). There are two parts to the hill with a flat/downhill section in between at the level crossing. Riders will start in one minute intervals from 11.20am.  For anyone unfamiliar with a hill climb it is basically a very short time trial on a hilly course.  It should only take a few minutes for each person to complete their climb and there will be great spectating along the course. Prizes will be presented at the Christmas Party  for the fastest rider in each of the A, B and C groups.

The Hill Climb event is designed to be a fun event and suitable for members of all abilities on the Sunday spin. We hope as many people as possible will take part and have the tea/coffee stop in Weir's afterwards.

Summer League Final Night BBQ and Live Concert

posted 6 Aug 2012, 14:51 by Kevin Monaghan

The club Social Officer, Damien O'Brien, is busy making preparations for the end of league barbecue. The barbecue will take place straight after the last race on August 16th. From experience it’s difficult to keep pedalling when you get the smell of burgers cooking at the end of each lap – and riders have been known to succumb to the smell and pull in early.

Negotiations are in place for the notorious Headsets and Bottom Brackets to play in the Village Inn after the barbecue. They are rumoured live a similar rock n’ roll life style to the Rolling Stones in their prime, but by day many of this group are members of Lakeside Wheelers. Last year they rocked Dysart until the late hours – well, late for us cyclists anyway and we are grateful that they have agreed to play again.
